President’s Welcome 2011

Dear Freshers,

Congratulations on your results and we hope you are looking forward to the start of the best years of your lives! You have earned the opportunity to read Medicine at what is one of the most prestigious universities in the world- and we are here to help you to make the most of the opportunities available to you now.
A new and enthusiastic MedSoc Committee welcome you to Oxford; we exist to help ease you into the joys and struggles of university life as medics. We can all remember how nerve-wracking coming to Oxford can be at first, but we have some great events planned for you to make sure the nerves turn rapidly to excitement! This booklet will help you to learn more about everything that MedSoc has to offer, from the great events we put on during the year (including the infamous MedSoc ball!), to information about our range of stash, to the essential tips for surviving lectures and tutorials. Remember – we’re always here to help and we’ve done it all before, so don’t hesitate to get in contact with any of us at any time. We are all really excited to be involved in guiding you smoothly through your first year, and are committed to ensuring you make some fantastic friends and memories!
We look forward to meeting you all very soon!

  1. Hi,

We’d been in touch last year about Oxford Medsoc potentially becoming a partner of our Hands Up For Health Workers campaign. I think conversations sort of trailed off so thought I’d get in touch with an update as we’d still love to have you on board!

I just wanted to let you know that we’ve launched a new campaign action this week! We’re joining with health workers caught up in conflict to call for peace in the run up to Peace Day in Sep – arguing that they are risking their lives to save others and so we need to support them.

We’re trying to get as many people as possible to sign our petition backing this call which we’ll be handing to the UN.

It would be fantastic if you’d be keen on linking up and could help us promote our new action to your students via your website, social media, e-newsletters? More info as well as the petition link can be found here http://www.handsupforhealthworkers.org and I’d be happy to provide copy, pictures, videos if you’d like to feature it in more detail?

We’d be happy to inc a link to you on our supporters page.

We also now have a student campaigning toolkit packed full of ideas on how students can engage with Hands Up For Health Workers so would love it if you could get involved beyond the action too! You can check it out here: http://www.handsupforhealthworkers.org/userfiles/file/StudentCampaignFINAL.pdf

I look forward to hearing back from you and hope that everything’s going well your end!

    Thanks,

    Lotte
