Welfare

Hey,
We’re Alex and Abbie, your MedSoc welfare officers for this year. We’re here to help you settle into Oxford medical school life, support you through any difficulties you may have and provide free tea and donuts for all your comfort eating needs!
Although your time in Oxford will be an amazing experience, it won’t always be easy. The course is, by nature, challenging and the tutorial system, lectures, practicals and Dissection Room will be unlike anything you’ve experienced before. It can take a while to learn how to navigate your way around these but we want to help you to continue the “work hard, play hard” reputation of Oxford medics!
We are always available to offer support. You can approach us any time, either in person or through email. We will also be scheduling some drop-in sessions and events where you can come to relax, talk things through and support each other. The service is totally confidential and we are both experienced in listening and counselling. We may well have faced similar problems ourselves and so will understand what you’re going through. If you need more formal advice we also know our way around the university’s excellent welfare services and can guide you. Your college will also have a JCR welfare officer who can help, but given the unique challenges of medical school, MedSoc’s dedicated welfare team may be better able to help with any subject-specific problems you may face.
If you have any worries at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on

Good luck and we look forward to meeting you soon!
