The Freshers’ Guide has been updated and revised for 2013, and is full of useful information about the academic and social side of your course. Paper copies should have been included in your info packs, but electronic copies can be downloaded too.
A pdf copy of the guide can be found here.
Hello and welcome to Oxford University! Congratulations to you all for meeting your offers and earning a place at what is one of the best (if not the best) medical schools in the world. Although you will almost certainly find your time here challenging, it will undoubtedly be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of your lives.
Oxford Medical Students Society (or MedSoc) is the University society for all medics in their first three years at Oxford. We run a number of exciting events throughout the year as well as helping you cope with everything else that Oxford can throw at you.
In this guide we’ve tried to show you all of the great things that MedSoc has to offer and the fantastic plans we have for this year (a highlight of our calendar is always the MedSoc ball, which this year will be held alongside the Oxford University Society of Biomedical Sciences). It also introduces the MedSoc committee, the people who are in charge of the day-to-day running of the society.
Remember- all of us on the committee have been exactly where you are now so don’t hesitate to get in contact with any of us if you’re worried about anything before arriving or throughout all of your time here.
We look forward to meeting you all very soon!
Jamie Mawhinney, MedSoc President, Balliol College
